授業の目的?内容 ／Course Objectives	This course aims to develop students’ ability to comprehend academic lectures, in addition to interviews and discussions, from a variety of different fields. In order to accomplish this, students will build their academic vocabulary, practice effective note-taking strategies, learn about how lectures are typically organized, and develop their critical thinking skills.
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	This course will be conducted in-person in the classroom. Students will spend the majority of time in class doing listening activities, but activities that aim to build other skills such as writing and speaking will also be undertaken. Students will also use a Learning Management System (LMS) called manaba to download and upload assignments. Students will also be able to receive feedback on their assignments either in class or via manaba.
事前?事後学修の内容 ／Before After Study	Students can expect to spend approximately 1 hour per week doing pre- and post-listening assignments. Assignments will be submitted in class or to the LMS. If students are absent, it is their responsibility to check if there were any assignments and complete them by the same deadline as other students.

評価方法 ／Evaluation	Class participation (15%), assignments (25%), midterm exam (25%), final exam (35%) 原則として4回以上欠席した学生は成績評価対象とならない。

1	Introduction / Review	The instructor will go over the syllabus and provide a review of last semester's material	Students will prepare materials to start the semester.
2	Unit  5 Economics (cooperative businesses)	Students will listen to a talk about a cooperative business.	Students will watch an online video about NGOs.
3	Economics (electricity for developing countries)	Students will watch a video about light for India's villages.	Students will organize their notes.
4	Economics (social responsibility)	Students will listen to a meeting about social responsibility.	Students will write their opinions about a listening passage.
5	Unit 6 Design (the role of design)	Students will listen to a guest lecture about design.	Students will learn new note-taking strategies and practice them.
6	Self assembly	Students will watch a video about designing the future.	Students will watch online videos and prepare to discuss them.
7	The design process	Students will listen to a conversation with a teaching assistant about the design process.	Students will give their opinions about a conversation.
8	Environmental science (environmental fatigue)	Students will listen to a podcast about the environment.	Students will read about the environment.
