Department of International Legal Studies

The Department of International Legal Studies provides a foundation for considering the many complex issues facing international society. The recent increase in international business, and the rise in Japanese companies entering foreign markets, as well as overseas companies increasingly entering the Japanese market, is giving rise to new challenges such as international transactions and the hiring of foreign workers. Accordingly, an international viewpoint is becoming essential not only for those working in companies directly but by national and local civil servants as well. There is also a rising demand for personnel capable of playing roles at the public and private institutions inside and outside Japan engaged in international exchange and cooperation and the maintenance of peace for global society. Issues are also expected to increase in daily life as well, such as with international marriage and international trials. Students at the Department of International Legal Studies will learn to meet these demands of modern international society. Students will gain language skills and specialist knowledge in law and political science enabling them to correctly assess the many complex problems and play a role on the world stage from an international legal mindset both inside and outside Japan.
