Emergencies and Disasters

Japan is one of the most seismically active nations in the world. It is essential that you prepare for a natural disaster on a daily basis.

Dokkyo University has published a disaster prevention manual, which includes a description of the evacuation routes. We also conduct annual disaster drills (ShakeOut and evacuation drills) during class periods. In addition, we stockpile food, water, and other daily necessities in case of an emergency. All of Dokkyo's academic buildings meet the seismic safety standards established by the Japanese government. These preparations allow people on the university premises to stay calm and act rationally in the event of an emergency.

A typhoon is another type of natural disaster that is common in Japan. Most typhoons hit Japan between July and October. They are accompanied by heavy rain, strong winds, flooding and even landslides in a worst-case scenario. In the event of an approaching typhoon, public transportation may be suspended so you may be unable to attend classes. The announcement of any class cancellations and/or time changes will be posted on the Dokkyo website and the Student Portal.

In the event of an emergency, such as an earthquake or typhoon, a Dokkyo representative will contact you via the Student Portal to confirm your safety, as necessary.
